Creativity: Are You Letting Your Genie Out?

Creativity. What is creativity you asked? The creativity definition is, well…”the ability to transcend traditional ideas, rules, patterns, relationships, or the like, and to create meaningful new ideas, forms, methods, interpretations, etc.;” as taken straight from the dictionary.

It’s funny how many people I come across that think only a few privilege individuals possess a creative genius. That is far from the truth.

Just like exercising any of your muscle your creative ability is really not any different. If you don’t take any time to let your creative genie out of the bottle it will wither away like an unused muscle.

So just how do you get that creative genie out of the bottle anyway. To begin with you need to let your mind be a magnet. A magnet for knowledge. Take in everything you come in contact with everyday. Consider what you read, see on tv, observe on the way to work, in the store, at the shopping mall.

Creativity can only come about from having an imagination and if you don’t give your imagination anything to feed on then it is like that muscle we talked about earlier that gets no oxygen.

Start doing and exploring things you have never tried. Painting a picture or anything artistic. Work on designing your yard our the interior of your house. Start writing a journal and read it back each week deciding how you could have written it better.

You must force your way out of the fishbowl of life and start exploring a little bit. When doing that you will be surprised at what freedom a little creativity can give you.

Don’t be afraid to explore the “flaky” edge just a little. Do something extreme once in a while. Go sky diving or bungee jumping. Get on a dirt bike and ride like crazy. For some, just going on a trip across the state or even the country will open your eyes to new and exciting experiences that will give you something to build on.

The key here is building on what you are doing. Once you get the ball rolling, do not quit. Don’t let your creative instincts drive you beyond safety or reality but give yourself a chance to cut lose…just a little.

The things you will discover will not only let that creative genius inside you out for some fresh air but you will also discover talents and abilities you would have denied ever having.

Give it a try and you will discover your genie will give you more than just three wishes.

What’s The Secret To The Secret?

The secret is a very interesting take on the power of positive thinking and what you can accomplish if you put your mind, will and energy into it. I will be writing and posting various articles in the near future on the power of positive thinking and just how and why it does impact your life but for now watch this video then leave me your thoughts. Especially if you have taken the time to read the book or know of someone who has and have applied any of the principles presented into yours or their life. This video is not without a great deal of controversy among some power of positive thinking players in the self help world. Some believe that it can over step the boundaries of reality when dealing with more critical issues in life while others claim it was the principles suggested in the book that helped them to overcome the most difficult of issues that they could not have accomplished without them.

It’s all locked within the powers of the human mind and one’s individual perception of what that personal reality really is. Or is it?

Happiness – 12 Easy Tips And It Can Be Yours! Part 2

Hi and welcome back! Here is part 2 of my article on 12 easy tips you can implement into your life and gain a sense of happiness. Happiness in and of itself can mean different things to different people. The common denominator for all of us is that we are just people. We all have the same basic needs, wants and desires and chief among those is the search for true happiness. These 12 tips are just scratching the surface in reality. They are the basics. It would be impossible to list everything that makes people truly happy but you will find that by picking just a few of these tips and putting them into practice will have a dramatic effect upon your life. The key here is empowerment. With the right knowledge and the willingness to try…just a little….you will be amazed how your life can truly change.

Ok…without further adieu here are the other 6 tips for you to contemplate.

7. Assumption. This can be a real party killer. This is also one of the most easiest traps to fall into. We begin our journey into “assumption” by what we experience early in life. You know, the old principle of action and reaction right? To put it simply, every action we observe or take part in ourselves results in some type of reaction. This is true for everything in life. We begin to develop a sense of assumption by the results we have witnessed by various actions throughout our lives. Pretty soon we are all assuming the things that will occur due to the action we take. This is not all bad because this also helps in our development of our sense of judgment. The trouble with assumption is it can wrongly cause us to worry about things that have no factual evidence. What a time waster it is to worry about something you may have or have not done correctly without any evidence to support it. Or, even worse, to assume something about someone else that turns out to be incorrect. Try not to waste time assuming the worst. Breaking that habit will have a very positive effect upon your life.

8. The power of positive thinking. This is related to the assumption tip above. Do you believe in luck? Did you know that for the most part luck doesn’t just happen? It’s true. Positive thinking has been proven to actually create in your life what many people would describe as luck. There is nothing you cannot accomplish if you believe in yourself. Put all of your mind into believing you can accomplish what you set out do to and you will begin seeing just how “lucky” you really can become!

9. Don’t think in terms of absolutes. If you spend all your time thinking in terms such as “never”, “can’t”, “won’t”, “always”, etc. you begin to develop negativity. Many times you will not be able to see the forest for the trees because you develop tunnel vision on reality. Don’t get yourself into the fishbowl of absolutes. You will lose your creativity and your ability to accomplish the things in life that bring you happiness. If you can’t begin to vision yourself being happy because things just “can’t” happen that way…well…then…you “won’t” ever get there. It’s just that simple.

10. Try your had at…..should I say it?…..Volunteering. It almost sounded a little nerdy to me the first time I decided to give it a shot. I mean, don’t I have better things to do than volunteer??? What could giving possibly get me in return. I found out the truth of that one several years back on Christmas Eve. No, it wasn’t about family and friends getting together and exchanging gifts. I decided one Christmas Eve to volunteer at a local community center to serve free dinner to those less fortunate. Long story short, I discovered a type of happiness that just keeps on giving. The truth is that it feels good to do something for others and that feeling can stay with you for years to come. I challenge you to give it a try and prove me wrong.

11. Time management. Another nerdy concept for many but I can tell you that running around in a harried state of mind constantly is not a very happy thing to do. Prioritize things on a daily basis. Decide beforehand how your day will progress. Allow a little time for the unexpected. You will discover quickly that chaos on a daily basis is a true happiness robber if there ever was one. A little organization will add real peace of mind by the end of the day.

12. Diet. Now I am not going into a long expose on this one except to say that the old adage “garbage in=garbage out” is absolutely true. If you are not eating a half way balanced diet you are setting yourself up physical fatigue and many problems. To much sugar, carbohydrates, caffeine, alcohol….well……you get the picture. Being only half alert and having no energy is like living in the fog. Balance out your diet and remember, “everything in moderation” is really the key here. I could go into greater details here but suffice it to say that if you can eliminate overloading the sugar and cards your body will respond with a ton of energy. Try it and see. What have you got to lose? A couple of pounds and a ton of fatigue maybe?

I urge you to take this article seriously and try just a few of the 12 tips I have suggested. Practice these tips just a little bit and before long you will discover that they will become habits. The benefits you will achieve by those habits will have everyone coming to you asking for the “secret” to your happiness! I guarantee that when people see how happy you are they will want it too!

Happiness – 12 Easy Tips And It Can Be Yours! Part 1

Self improvement. Life can be tough with out it. There must be a million things that can grind away at you day after day. Like a rock between a couple of boulders, your happiness can be ground away like dust if you let it. It doesn’t have to be that way. Surprisingly, keeping and maintaining your happiness is not as hard as it appears to be. In this article I am going to cover 6 tips that will help you maintain and even increase your true sense of happiness. You can have a more fulfilling life by following a few easy rules. Start today and before you know it the empowerment you receive by following these suggestions will have a profound impact on your life.

1. We are social animals by nature. The relationships we cultivate are essential and key to your happiness. We have to treat these relationships like a prized garden and spend a little time keeping them in top shape. Everyone on earth is different. No two people think exactly alike and we all have differing opinions. Because of that you must learn to accept people for who they are. You don’t have to agree with everything, of course, that would rob you of your identity but you need to stay out of the argument trap as best you can. Avoid the temptation to engage because you may think you are right. Even if you are. I know for many that is hard to swallow but believe me falling into those traps never get anyone anywhere. Ever. That’s the truth. Resentment is all that is bred most of the time. This is probably the most important skill you must learn. And you can learn with the right techniques.

2. Thankfulness. I like saying that word. It’s easy and it sounds good too. You want to see real improvement in your sense of well being spend a little time each day contemplating the things you are thankful for. It’s surprising to me that most people will only spend one day a year telling those they love how thankful they are. You should be doing it every single day. Once you begin to realize all the small things in life that you are blessed with they all start adding up. Over time you will find yourself looking forward to the day.

3. You ever watch the news at night? I mean on a regular basis? Do you watch it in the morning as well? How about listening to it on the way to and from work. Stop! Can you spell depressing? The news programmers are not working to make your day any more pleasant. They know the old saying. “Bad news travels like wild fire.” Have you ever thought about why that is? People love scandal. Tragedy rivets our attention. Hearing about the unthinkable captivates our imagination. It’s not healthy. It causes anxiety even if subconsciously. Take this challenge. Stop watching the news for one month then get back to me and tell me how much more time you have spent dwelling on the woes of the world during that month. You will find a much more positive environment beginning to happen in your life. It’s the kind of environment that will lend you some peace of mind and you will begin noticing how easy it is to be more thankful. Try it. You will see!

4. Spirituality. That word may conger up a different meaning for all who read it but the fact is spending some time meditating on positive things, singing in a church group, or being a part of some spiritual group contributes immensely to finding some inner peace. It will help with your sense of belonging. Loneliness can be a huge enemy of happiness. You would be surprised at how just a little time exploring your spiritual nature can be one of the best defenses against being lonely if you let it.

5. Do you have a sense of humor? Did you know we are the only animal on earth that does? Don’t confuse that with being playful. That’s completely different. Laughing and enjoying a little comedy is a wonderful medicine and is a huge factor in self improvement. We tend to relax and let down the walls we sometimes build around ourselves by all the seriousness of life everyday. Let go and enjoy laughing! For some this is difficult due to insecurity or having an introverted personality. Being humorous is a skill you need to develop. The more you participate the better you get at it and smiling will start to be a bigger part of you personality. It works wonders for you self esteem.

6. Finally, exercise. I can hear some of you cringing already. I am not talking about spending 2 hours a day at the gym. I’m talking about a few minutes of fresh air and moving your muscles and joints just enough to shake off the rust. I could absolutely write for hours about how exercise literally has saved my life but I will write more about that in a later post. If you can spend just 20 minutes a day to begin with by getting some oxygen to your brain you will be surprised at how it will effect depression levels, anxiety attacks, psychological issues and not to mention blood pressure, body fat and circulation….see what I mean! There is so much to be said that I can only just touch on it here. It doesn’t have to be difficult to begin with. In fact, you can make it seriously fun if you know the technique.

Well, there you have it. Six basic secrets that when you learn how to implement them into your lives you will be on the road to discovering how you to can truly be happy. Of course, there is so much more and I go into it in much greater detail but I hope I have given you a place to start. Just start with one or two things and add more as time goes by.
